Earlier we wrote a blog about the characteristics of and the difference between dry skin and eczema. No fun! The most important thing: what can you do about it? We have listed tips that should help you care for your baby’s skin.
Do try this at home
- Take a shorter bath:
limit bath time to a minimum. (Hot) water dries out the skin and that is exactly what you want to prevent. Kids below 12 months old should reduce bathing to two or three times a week. Older children need a more specific advice, so please contact an expert on that matter. Mind the temperature of the water – don’t go higher than 37 degrees Celsius. - Avoid products that contain a(n aggressive) foaming ingredient.
Those so-called soaps remove the important protective barrier of the skin. When you do want to use a soap, choose a pH neutral base [link own product] without coloring and fragrance. - Use (bath) oil:
oil protects the lipids of the skin. This thin layer of tissue maintains the moisture balance of the skin by protecting it from drying out. But be careful of a slippery bathroom! - Drying off – don’t rub, just pat:
after showering or bathing, you can gently pat dry the skin. Avoid rubbing, especially with a rough towel. - Airy clothes:
avoid an irritated skin. So no scratching and irritating fabrics or clothing tags!
Putting all of this into practice and there’s still no improvement? Then we recommend a trip to your doctor. He or she will supply medical advice and do further research.

The products of Petit&Jolie are very gentle, all natural and do not contain allergens, soap or other harsh ingredients. Of course, we were big users already, but now also the moms and dads tell us that the bath oil is very suitable for dry skin and light eczema spots. We love to hear that!
